In July 2004 edition of PC Pro, 6 flash memory mp3 players were tested and the mpio fl-100 came out at the top, scoring 5 stars out of 6.
"The mpio-fl100 is still a big seller and for good reason. It's the size of a small matchbox, yet you can squeeze in an extra 512MB of memory thanks to it's unique SD/MMc card slot. Excise addicts will appreciate the well laid-out controls, which can be easily reached when rummaging through layers of clothing" Pc Pro - July 2004
This player has come down in price and like the rio cali still has a major advantage over other flash players, which only have inbuilt flash memory. These days, you can find 128MB of SD memory for between £15 - £20. If your going to buy a flash player, then it makes sense to buy a player with memory expansion.
Also the fl-100 quite rightly won the prestigious IF design award and CES Innovations Award, and mpio are innovators in the portable digital player market.
The sound quality of the Digitalway mpio fl100 mp3 player is both crisp and clear. It manages to deliver in every area, providing a wide range of features including a useful FM Radio and audio recording (this feature also allows you to record the radio).
It has 7 different graphic EQ settings from flat, rock, pop, jazz, classical, dynamic bass and vocals. In addition you can create your own EQ settings.
This player is lightweight and pocket sized. It's about the length of a cigarette lighter, though slightly wider. As you can see from the larger pictures, the mpio is gifted in the aesthetics stakes - this an extremely cute player and the camera doesn't lie.
Every detail right down to the opening slot for the battery, is user friendly, robust and slick.
The sea-saw volume control is robust and responsive to the touch, giving you control by feel with no need to get the player out of your pocket to adjust the volume. Likewise the user friendly "forward" and "rewind" dial on the side allows you to skip tracks, fast forward/rewind to a specific parts in the track.
The FM radio has surprisingly good reception and sound quality, allowing you to save stations. Available with 128mb/256mb/512mb internal memory, the memory is expandable using SD/MMC removable memory meaning you can increase the memory capacity by a further 512MB and with SD memory getting cheaper every day it's nice option.
The backlit blue LCD is similar to other MPIO screens. It is small, easy to read, and displays most of the important information. In all, the LCD can show EQ mode, track number/total tracks, elapsed time, file name (artist/song), file format, stereo levels, bitrate, play/repeat mode, track length, battery level, hold function, and memory card usage.

|
"The Digitalway MPIO FL100 is one of the more full-featured flash-based MP3 music players, and it's easy to operate, thanks to ergonomic button placement and a quality display. With an FM radio, voice recording, and expandable memory all packed into its tiny frame, the FL100 should be on any digital-music fan's list....."

The Vooner Review | |
"So at the end of the day, what's the verdict? Well if you want a small MP3 player... look no further. This is it, the ESSENTIAL MP3 player to date. It is small, light, takes regular batteries, has solid sound, and is expandable through the SD slot."
